In the winter of 1997, a 19-year-old woman named Maria Antonia Mauricio vanished from Phoenix, Arizona. On the morning of January 20th, she was at a restaurant in the area of 17th Avenue and Van Buren Street with her grandmother. At approximately 10:30 a.m., Maria was seen getting into a small, white, two-door car driven by an unidentified man. She has not been seen or heard from since that day. At the time of her disappearance, Maria, who was also known by the nicknames "Cholla" and "Little Munchkin," was about three months pregnant. Maria is a Hispanic female with brown hair and brown eyes. At the time she went missing, she was described as being between 5'3" and 5'5" tall and weighing between 130 and 140 pounds. She has several distinct tattoos, including three teardrops by her right eye, the name "Mauricio" across her back, "Casper" on her upper right arm, and "Benavides" written vertically down her lower left leg. She also has tattoos on her right hand and left fingers. Additionally, Maria's ears are pierced, and she may have surgical scars on her face from a previous injury. She has also been known to use the last name Valenzuela. The circumstances surrounding Maria's disappearance are troubling, and authorities suspect foul play was involved. The lack of contact with family and friends since she was last seen is highly uncharacteristic and raises significant concerns for her well-being. The Phoenix Police Department is the lead investigating agency in her case. Over the years, her case has been shared by various organizations dedicated to finding missing persons in the hope of generating new leads. Despite the passage of time, the investigation into what happened to Maria Mauricio remains open as her family continues to await answers.
