Julie May Hill, a 22-year-old from Duluth, Minnesota, was last seen on July 18, 1980. She was reported missing by her mother after strange circumstances were found at her apartment. Julie had left behind her two Doberman pinscher dogs, her purse, and food cooking on the stove. The door to her apartment was unlocked, and it appeared as though she had stepped out, expecting to return shortly. However, Julie never came back, and no immediate clues pointed to her whereabouts.
At the time of her disappearance, Julie had recently ended a troubled relationship with her boyfriend, Donald Louis Bloomer, who had a history of domestic violence. In 2004, police searched properties connected to Bloomer, and he eventually confessed to accidentally shooting Julie on the day she went missing. He claimed he buried her body in the woods near Floodwood, Minnesota. Despite this confession, her remains have never been found.
Bloomer was charged with second-degree manslaughter and sentenced to three years in prison. The authorities demolished his Ninth Street home in search of evidence, but nothing was discovered.
