She left her home that afternoon to retrieve her purse, which she had left at a party the night before. Denise was driving her cream-colored 1981 Buick Regal. Although she was expected to return home shortly, she never did, and her car was later found abandoned along Tower Road, about three miles from her destination.
At the time of her disappearance, Denise was described as a responsible and active student, set to attend Miami University in Ohio. Her sudden disappearance shocked the community, and extensive search efforts were launched, involving law enforcement, volunteers, and tracking dogs. Despite these efforts, no significant clues were uncovered, and Denise has never been found.
Over the years, various theories have surfaced, including possible foul play, but no suspects were definitively identified. In 2020, nearly 34 years after Denise went missing, a man named Jeffery Beasley, who had previously been in a relationship with Denise, was charged with voluntary manslaughter in connection with her death.
