On a summer night in June of 1979, twenty-three-year-old Vali Davis went out with friends to a popular Indianapolis nightclub called Lucifer's Restaurant, located in the 3500 block of East 86th Street. The club was known for its disco music and dancing. At some point in the early morning hours of June 24th, Vali was seen walking toward her car in the restaurant's parking lot.
There are conflicting reports as to whether anyone saw her leave the establishment; some sources indicate a friend saw her walking towards her car around 2:00 a.m., while others state that none of her friends witnessed her departure. Tragically, that was the last time she was ever seen. Two days later, after she failed to return home, her mother reported her missing.
Vali's car, a copper-colored 1976 Ford Pinto, was discovered in the parking lot of Lucifer's. The driver's side door of the vehicle was found unlocked, but there was no sign of a struggle or any indication of where Vali might have gone. At the time of her disappearance, Vali was described as being 5'5" to 5'7" tall and weighing around 110 pounds, with short red hair and green eyes. She was wearing a distinctive black square-neck Quiana dress with straps over the shoulders and lacy sides, and she was carrying a matching black purse. It has also been noted that she may have been using the last name Morrison.
The investigation into Vali's disappearance was immediately treated as a suspected abduction and has since been classified as a homicide. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, including the Indiana State Police, no significant leads have ever been developed in the decades since she vanished. Her family, heartbroken by her disappearance, hired a private investigator and even placed newspaper ads offering a reward for any information leading to her safe return. They also consulted with psychics in their desperate search for answers. Sadly, both of Vali's parents passed away without ever learning what happened to their daughter. The case remains a painful and unsolved mystery, a story of a young woman who went out for a night of fun and never came home.
