Timothy Allen Adkins, age 27, went missing on July 19, 1987, during a scuba diving trip off the Gulf of Mexico, about sixteen miles west of Tarpon Springs, Florida. Adkins and a friend surfaced after their dive and began swimming towards their boat. While his friend successfully made it back, Adkins disappeared and was never seen again. Despite an extensive search by the U.S. Coast Guard, they only recovered his oxygen tank and wetsuit.
