Barbara Joy Gallagher, 31, was last seen between September and mid-October 1988 at her home in Azalea, Oregon, which she shared with her boyfriend, Robert Barr. At the time of her disappearance, Barbara was deeply involved in her community, working as a coach for the Roseburg Swim Team, a lifeguard, and a student majoring in corporate physical fitness at Umpqua Community College. She also worked for the Red Cross and had hobbies like scuba diving, jogging, and collecting carousel horses.
