Jonathan Aujay, a 38-year-old Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy, went missing on June 11, 1998, after embarking on a solo hike and trail run in the Devil’s Punchbowl area of the Angeles National Forest. Aujay, a skilled outdoorsman and experienced long-distance runner, had planned to summit Mount Baden-Powell, a 9,400-foot peak, and return before sunset.
