Eric Dickson Cansler, a 40-year-old man, was last seen on August 9, 2005, in Marin, California, two days before his 41st birthday. He was reported missing after his car was discovered abandoned mid-span on the Golden Gate Bridge. Inside the car, authorities found his wallet on the dashboard, and later, a pair of sneakers believed to be his were recovered from the water below. Despite extensive investigations, Cansler has never been heard from again.
Cansler was known to suffer from depression and was on medication at the time of his disappearance. He had a varied and accomplished background, having earned degrees from the University of North Carolina and the University of Colorado. He was deeply interested in activities such as sailing, traveling, and glass blowing. His family has come to believe he is deceased, though his body has never been recovered, and his case remains open with authorities continuing to seek leads.
