Clive Alexander Barry, a 16-year-old boy from Mill Valley, California, went missing on January 8, 2007. He was a junior at Tamalpais High School and had the day off from school. After having lunch with his mother and making plans to spend more time together that afternoon, Clive left their home while his mother was napping. He left behind suicide notes addressed to his parents and two friends, explaining that he had been planning his death for three weeks and expressing that they were not to blame.
Clive rode his bike to the Golden Gate Bridge, where a California Highway Patrol officer witnessed him jumping from the bridge. Despite an immediate search, his body was never recovered. His bicycle was found at the bridge, and authorities concluded that Clive had likely died in the incident. He had previously attempted suicide two years earlier by ingesting rat poison but had recovered after receiving treatment and counseling.
Clive’s family shared the details of his disappearance and the circumstances around it to raise awareness of suicides at the Golden Gate Bridge. Despite the search efforts and the eyewitness account, Clive remains listed as a missing person, presumed deceased.
