Frank Wilson Johnson, a 17-year-old Boy Scout, went missing on September 17, 1961, during a hiking trip in Zion National Park's Virgin River Narrows near Springdale, Utah. Johnson was part of a group of 26 hikers from northern Utah who were caught in a sudden flash flood. The powerful floodwaters, described as running fifty times higher than normal, swept away several hikers, including Johnson and his best friend, Alvin Nelson.
