James Michael Kling, a 17-year-old from California, went missing on July 8, 1984, while vacationing with family at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in Utah. He was last seen walking along the dock at the Dangling Rope Marina around 3:30 p.m., heading to the family’s rented houseboat to retrieve a t-shirt. Soon after, one of his flip-flops was found floating near the boat, and the other was discovered farther out in the lake later that evening.
Despite an extensive search involving divers and rescue teams, no trace of James was found. Authorities believe that due to his known history of epilepsy, James may have suffered a seizure and accidentally fallen into the lake, resulting in drowning. However, no physical evidence of his body has ever been recovered, and his disappearance remains unsolved. He was last seen wearing red swimming trunks and no shirt. His case continues to be classified as a missing person.
James' family and investigators have never given up hope, but after decades, no significant leads have emerged. The case remains open, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the authorities.
