James Michael Kling, a 17-year-old from California, went missing on July 8, 1984, while vacationing with family at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in Utah. He was last seen walking along the dock at the Dangling Rope Marina around 3:30 p.m., heading to the family’s rented houseboat to retrieve a t-shirt. Soon after, one of his flip-flops was found floating near the boat, and the other was discovered farther out in the lake later that evening.
