David Civile, a 26-year-old resident of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, went missing on November 17, 2010, after setting out on a solo kayak trip on the Shrewsbury River. Civile had launched his kayak from Little Silver Point Road around noon on a windy day. He was reported missing later that evening when his empty kayak was found near Sedge Island. Despite an extensive multi-agency search involving local police, the Coast Guard, and volunteers, there was no immediate sign of him.
