In the vast and unforgiving landscape of the Sonoran Desert, another story of hope and desperation unfolded in the summer of 2011. Cristian Sarmiento Vega, a 30-year-old Hispanic male, vanished on or around July 27th of that year while attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border near Nogales, Arizona.
