Patricia Minassian, a 37-year-old mother from Hingham, Massachusetts, disappeared on June 30, 1996, while vacationing with her family on Cape Cod. On the day she vanished, Patricia drove off in her family’s minivan, leaving behind a 15-page letter expressing feelings of guilt and stating that her family would be better off without her, though she did not explicitly mention plans to end her life. She was last seen in Bourne, Massachusetts, before the van was found abandoned at a parking lot near Cahoon Hollow Beach in Wellfleet—the location of her first date with her husband.
Patricia had struggled with depression, and authorities initially suspected that she may have died by suicide, possibly by walking into the ocean. However, despite extensive searches, no trace of her body was ever found. Her personal belongings, including her wedding rings and credit cards, were left behind, and there has been no activity on her bank accounts since her disappearance.
There were also unconfirmed sightings of Patricia in the Brockton area nearly a year later, in 1997, leading some, including her husband, to speculate that she may have started a new life under a different identity.
