At the time of her disappearance, Vicke was estranged from her husband and was a psychology student at Assumption College. She had recently moved out of their shared home, placing most of her belongings in the garage of her psychology professor, Dr. Roger Barker. There were suspicions of a romantic relationship between Vicke and Barker, though this was never confirmed.
Before she disappeared, Vicke told her husband she would visit him after a weekend trip to Maine with a friend, but she was never seen again. When her husband contacted the friend, he learned that there had been no trip. Suspicions arose that she might have traveled to Colorado with Barker, as he had traveled there around the same time. Barker later claimed he did not know her whereabouts. Vicke was not reported missing until 2010, 36 years after her disappearance, and her case remains unsolved.
