He lived on a boat near the marina, along with his dog, and would frequently use a small homemade fiberglass dinghy to travel between his boat and the shore. On the day he disappeared, Brown was reportedly heading to the Key West courthouse to pay some fines, leaving his dog behind on the boat. He never arrived at the courthouse and has not been heard from since.
Authorities discovered that Brown and his dinghy had both gone missing. Despite an extensive search, including an investigation into local waters, neither Brown nor the dinghy were ever found. His case is classified as "lost/injured missing," but no definitive clues have emerged regarding his fate. At the time of his disappearance, Brown was described as having gray hair, brown eyes, and a tattoo of an ant on his navel. He also wore eyeglasses and had a gray beard.
