Carmen Gonzalez, a 37-year-old woman, was last seen on December 31, 2000, when she checked into the Days Inn Motel in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She intended to stay for one night but never checked out. Her disappearance was reported three days later by the motel staff when they noticed she had left behind personal belongings in her room, suggesting she planned to return.
Carmen had rented a silver 2001 Ford Windstar van, which was later found abandoned in a snow-filled canyon in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, about five miles east of Cañada de Los Alamos. Despite this discovery, no trace of Carmen has ever been found. There were no footprints or other signs in the snow near the vehicle, and searches with tracker dogs failed to detect her presence.
