Michael Zapletal, a 9-year-old boy, was last seen on August 15, 2007, during a family outing to the Kansas River near Maple Hill, Kansas. He was with his father, three brothers, and four friends when tragedy struck. While Michael and a few other children were wading on a sandbar near the river's edge, the sandbar collapsed, causing them to be swept into the water. Despite rescue efforts, all of the children were saved except for Michael, who disappeared beneath the surface.
