Stanley Craig Galbreath, a 37-year-old truck driver, disappeared on November 6, 1980, while making deliveries for Prairieland Processors, a meat processing company in Winfield, Kansas. Galbreath was driving an 18-foot refrigerated meat truck, making stops in Wichita and Valley Center. However, he never made it to his final scheduled stop in Hutchinson. Witnesses reported seeing his truck driving erratically and sideswiping cars before it was found abandoned the next day in Wichita.
Inside the truck, authorities discovered blood, along with Stanley’s sunglasses and baseball cap, but there was no sign of him.
Along with Galbreath’s disappearance, 15,000 pounds of meat valued at $20,000 was stolen from the truck. Based on witness descriptions, authorities believe an unidentified man seen driving the truck after Galbreath vanished may have been involved in the crime. Despite a thorough investigation, Stanley was declared legally dead in 1985, and his remains have never been found. Investigators suspect foul play, theorizing that he may have been killed during a robbery involving the stolen meat.
