On a late September day in 1960, a group of five individuals set out on a boat trip from Nulato, a small village on the banks of the Yukon River in Alaska. Among them was 48-year-old Leo Demoski, Jr., a man of American Indian/Alaska Native descent. He was accompanied by Bertha Demoski, aged 38, Claude Demoski, 45, Emmett Nollner, 28, and Harry Pitka, who was 39.
