In the quiet Koyukon Athabascan village of Nulato, nestled on the banks of the mighty Yukon River, the late summer of 1960 was drawing to a close. On September 25th, a group of five community members prepared for a journey downriver to the village of Ruby. Among them was 39-year-old Harry Pitka, a man of some renown in the region.
