On a summer day in August 1977, 30-year-old Carolyn Louis Davidson was in Seward, Alaska, preparing to embark on a boat trip. Traveling with her were John Davidson, age 32, and Jesse Davidson, age 3. Their intended destination was Driftwood Bay. The group set out on their journey in a 16 to 18-foot skiff described as a heavy, flat-bottomed wooden boat, dark gray with a bluish tint, and equipped with two outboard motors. Carolyn was reportedly wearing dark clothing at the time of her departure. The trip from Seward to Driftwood Bay was expected to be a routine excursion, but concern grew when the party did not arrive as planned. They were officially reported as overdue, and on August 5, 1977, the Alaska State Troopers were notified and opened a missing persons case. An extensive and thorough search was launched in the waters between Seward and Driftwood Bay in an effort to locate the missing individuals and their vessel. Despite the comprehensive search efforts, no trace of Carolyn, John, or Jesse Davidson was ever found. The dark gray skiff they were traveling in also vanished without a trace and has never been located. The case remains an unsolved mystery, leaving family and investigators without answers as to what happened to the three individuals on that August day. The disappearance of Carolyn Davidson, along with John and Jesse Davidson, is a long-standing cold case, a somber reminder of the perils of the Alaskan waters and the enduring pain of not knowing the fate of loved ones.
