Ruben Saenz, a 31-year-old man from Encinitas, California, disappeared on June 21, 1989, while camping in the Kalalau area of Kauai, Hawaii. Saenz had traveled to Hawaii in May of that year, reportedly seeking to "find himself," and spent time in Hanalei before hiking into the remote Kalalau Valley. He was last seen on June 21, and after failing to make contact with anyone, extensive searches were conducted in the area, but no trace of him was found.
