TreVez F. Johnson, a 17-year-old Black male from Kansas City, Missouri, had his life cut short on the night of April 1, 2022. The tragic event unfolded in Lee's Summit, Missouri, as Johnson was traveling as a passenger in a vehicle moving northbound along Interstate 470. Around 9:10 p.m., near the Lakewood Boulevard exit, the vehicle became the target of gunfire.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting remains unclear, but the attack resulted in the car coming to a stop on the inside shoulder of the highway.
Law enforcement officers and emergency crews rushed to the scene following reports of a disturbance and shooting on the interstate. Upon their arrival, they discovered Johnson inside the vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals who were also in the vehicle sustained injuries during the incident. These survivors were transported to a local hospital by a passing motorist who had stopped to render aid, and they were later treated and released with minor injuries.
The investigation into the homicide has continued since that spring night, yet authorities have struggled to identify those responsible. Detectives determined that the shots were fired while the vehicle was in transit, but no suspects have been publicly named or taken into custody in connection with the murder. The case remains open with the Lee's Summit Police Department, which has repeatedly urged the public to come forward with any information that might lead to an arrest or provide closure to the victim's family.
