In the late hours of a Monday evening in Springfield, Missouri, tragedy struck a 17-year-old male, Sebastian Wormington. On June 6, 2022, at approximately 11:35 p.m., Springfield Police responded to a call of a shooting at 2660 N. Grant Ave. Upon their arrival, officers discovered the young man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Sebastian was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries.
Some sources indicate he passed away that same night, while others state he died the following day, June 7, 2022. The Springfield Police Department has since been investigating his death as the city's eighth homicide of that year.
During the initial investigation, it was learned that another juvenile male was also a victim in the incident. He had been assaulted by the suspect or suspects but fortunately sustained non-life-threatening injuries. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement had not yet identified a suspect.
