In a Normandy apartment on October 14, 2022, 30-year-old Tyauna Jones, a female, lost her life under suspicious circumstances that initially were portrayed as a suicide. The incident occurred in the 1600 block of Castle Park Drive, where she was with Landan A. Williamson. Williamson, a 31-year-old from University City, was the sole individual with Jones at the time of her death and he initially reported to investigators that she had shot herself.
However, the course of the investigation
took a dramatic turn when the medical examiner's report on Jones's gunshot wound to the head, along with a subsequent analysis of the firearm, contradicted Williamson's account of events. This evidence suggested that Jones's death was not a suicide. As a result, Normandy police charged Williamson with second-degree murder. Further investigation into Williamson's background revealed a disturbing history of domestic violence.
At the time of Jones's death, Williamson was on probation for a 2021 domestic assault conviction. In that prior case, he had pleaded guilty to second-degree domestic assault after being accused of slamming a woman's head, causing her to lose consciousness, and threatening to kill her with a knife. Disturbingly, court documents from the 2021 incident revealed that Williamson had threatened to kill that victim and stage it as a suicide with the knife. This prior conviction, for which he received five years of probation and a brief period of incarceration, cast a dark shadow over his claims in the death of Tyauna Jones. Following the charges in Jones's death, Williamson was denied bond.
