On an autumn evening in Kansas City, Missouri, the life of 35-year-old Christopher Antonio Beaugard was tragically cut short. On October 30, 2022, police were called to the Canyon Creek Apartments on Bales Avenue around 7:45 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Behind one of the apartment buildings, they discovered Beaugard, unresponsive. Despite the immediate medical aid rendered by the officers, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The events leading to the fatal shooting began in the
parking lot of a neighboring building, where Beaugard was involved in an altercation with at least one other person. The dispute, which was reportedly over a vehicle, escalated, resulting in gunfire that struck and killed Beaugard. His sister-in-law was present at the apartment that evening and witnessed two individuals near Beaugard's mother's vehicle just before the shooting. She described them as two people with dark skin, one appearing to be a young adult and the other even younger, possibly a teenager. After hearing a 'pop,' she saw one of the individuals running away.
In the wake of his death, Beaugard's family has been left to grapple with their profound loss. Described as a loving and patient father to his two young daughters, his absence has created an irreplaceable void in their lives. In pursuit of accountability, Beaugard's mother filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Canyon Creek Apartments and its management in October 2023. The lawsuit alleges that the apartment complex was aware of the high levels of violent and property crimes in the area but failed to provide adequate security measures, such as patrols and functional security cameras, which could have prevented her son's death.
As of late 2023, the investigation into Christopher Antonio Beaugard's murder remains ongoing, and no arrests have been made. The Kansas City Police Department has continued to appeal to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the person or persons responsible. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for information that leads to an arrest in the case. The family continues to hope for justice, remembering a man who was deeply loved and whose life was senselessly taken.
