On the morning of November 3, 2022, authorities in St. Louis, Missouri, were summoned to Barrett Brothers Park in the Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood following the discovery of a deceased individual. Officers arrived at the intersection of St. Louis and Hamilton avenues around 8:00 a.m., where they located the body of a 42-year-old male, Andre Jermaine Nash, lying in the street. Preliminary examination revealed that he had sustained fatal gunshot wounds, including injuries to his chest and face.
The scene suggested that the body had been discarded there rather than the park being the primary location of the violence, leading investigators to retrace the victim's final movements.
Detectives eventually determined that the fatal confrontation had occurred the previous day, November 2, 2022, at a vacant residence in the 4100 block of Clara Place. The investigation uncovered that the violence stemmed from a narcotics transaction involving Nash and an acquaintance named Terrell Donta McDaniel. Nash had reportedly paid McDaniel $500 for ten grams of fentanyl, but a dispute arose when McDaniel failed to provide the agreed-upon amount. Seeking to collect the debt or the missing product, Nash tracked McDaniel to the vacant property where he was staying. Upon Nash entering the house, McDaniel shot him twice in the chest and once in the face.
Following the shooting, McDaniel and unnamed accomplices attempted to conceal the crime. They wrapped Nash's body in tarps and plastic before placing him into the trunk of a stolen vehicle. Under the cover of darkness later that evening, they drove to the 5900 block of St. Louis Avenue and dumped the remains near the park where they would be found the next morning. McDaniel later claimed to authorities that he had been avoiding Nash for months and acted out of fear for his life when Nash confronted him at the vacant dwelling.
Terrell Donta McDaniel was subsequently identified as the primary suspect and apprehended. In September 2023, he appeared in federal court and pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl and one count of discharging a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. During the legal proceedings, McDaniel admitted to the killing and the subsequent disposal of the body. In September 2024, a U.S. District Judge sentenced McDaniel to 12 years in federal prison for his role in the death of Andre Nash.
