Bryan Scott Verkler, a 27-year-old patrolman with the Mishawaka Police Department, tragically lost his life on December 13, 2003. On that fateful night, Verkler and Corporal Thomas Roberts responded to a call reporting shots fired on Battell Street in Mishawaka, Indiana. The incident stemmed from a dispute between a suspect and his neighbor, during which the suspect fired several rounds into the air, prompting residents to alert the police.
