In the winter of 2020, the community of Mishawaka, Indiana, was struck by a senseless act of violence that claimed the life of 18-year-old Vincenzo 'Vinny' Trozzy. A recent graduate of Penn High School, Vinny was just beginning his adult life. He had started a new job and was a proud and loving father to his infant daughter, Violet Elizabeth Trozzy.
Known for his love of fishing, video games, and the immense pride he took in his car, his world revolved around his baby girl.
The tragic events unfolded on the evening of December 16, 2020, in Mishawaka's Central Park. Vinny was with another individual when they were ambushed in what authorities later described as a drug deal that turned into a robbery. During the attempted robbery, a violent altercation broke out, and Vinny was fatally shot. The promising life of the young father was cut short, leaving a void in the lives of his family and friends.
The investigation into Vinny's death led to the arrests of two suspects, Tayshawn Malczynski and Daniel Allen. The ensuing legal proceedings against Malczynski, who was 18 at the time of the incident, were complex. A jury initially found him guilty of attempted murder but could not reach a consensus on the charges of murder and robbery. In a subsequent turn of events, Malczynski pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and a firearm enhancement. The court sentenced him to a total of 60 years in prison for his role in the death of Vincenzo Trozzy. This sentence was comprised of 20 years for voluntary manslaughter, 35 years for attempted murder, and an additional five years for the firearm enhancement, with the sentences to be served consecutively.
