On August 19, 2009, a tragic sequence of events unfolded in Lakeville, Indiana, located in St. Joseph County, resulting in the death of 30-year-old male David S. Lawton. The incident began when Arden Balmer Jr., a 28-year-old close friend of Lawton, contacted his ex-girlfriend, Alexandra Stahly, and asked her to come to his parents' home.
