On a tragic day in February of 2010, the lives of two women were cut short in a brutal act of violence. Linda Nickle, a 61-year-old female, and her son's 24-year-old fiancée, Elizabeth Newcomer, were found shot to death in the Indianapolis home they shared on February 20th. The discovery sent shockwaves through their community and left a family grappling with an unimaginable loss.
The investigation into the double homicide soon focused on a person of interest close to Linda.
Authorities identified her boyfriend, Elwin Hart, as a suspect in the killings. As investigators delved deeper into the circumstances surrounding the deaths, evidence mounted against Hart, leading to his arrest. He was subsequently charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of both Linda Nickle and Elizabeth Newcomer. Additional charges were also brought against him for unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana.
The legal proceedings that followed brought a measure of justice for the grieving families. In a trial held in Marion Superior Court, a jury found Elwin Hart guilty on all counts. In June 2011, the 64-year-old was sentenced to a term of 110 years in prison for his role in the murders. The conviction and lengthy sentence ensured that the man responsible for the violent deaths of two innocent women would be held accountable for his actions.
