In the winter of 2013, the life of Daniel W. Arnett, a 34-year-old White/Caucasian man, was cut short in a burst of violence inside a home on Oliver Street in Fort Wayne, Indiana. On the afternoon of December 3rd, police and paramedics rushed to the residence to find Arnett suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead within the hour.
The Allen County Coroner's Office officially ruled Arnett's death a
homicide, the 44th in Fort Wayne and Allen County that year, a grim statistic that tied a record set in 1997. Investigators with the Fort Wayne Police Department soon began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. According to the police chief at the time, the incident was believed to have been a drug deal that had taken a violent turn. Arnett, a business owner who operated a tree removal service, was shot in the chest, neck, arm, and shoulder.
Despite the initial assessment by law enforcement, the case has grown cold over the years. No arrests have ever been made in connection with the murder of Daniel Arnett. The individuals responsible for his death have never been publicly identified, and the investigation remains open. Arnett, who was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, left behind a wife and three children. The search for answers and justice for his family continues.
