In the spring of 2015, a sense of shock and sorrow befell an Indianapolis neighborhood when 32-year-old Tiara Turner was found deceased inside a home on North Harding Street. On March 24th, she, along with three other individuals, became victims in a chilling quadruple homicide that left the community reeling and searching for answers. The other victims were identified as 41-year-old Terri Betties, her 18-year-old son Davon Whitlock, and a family friend, 48-year-old Sherry Taylor.
Each had been shot multiple times.
The investigation into the four deaths was a lengthy and arduous process for law enforcement. For years, the case remained cold, a lingering source of pain for the families who awaited justice for their loved ones. Investigators worked tirelessly, following leads and piecing together the events of that tragic day. The initial belief by police was that the act was not random, suggesting the victims may have been targeted. The case gained a significant development in January 2019 when a suspect, Nicholas Dunn, was formally charged with four counts of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. According to court records, the prosecution alleged that Dunn had held the three female victims at gunpoint, using them to lure Whitlock into the residence where all four were subsequently killed.
Just as the families of Tiara Turner and the other victims began to see a path toward closure, the case took an unexpected turn in July 2022. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office announced that they were dismissing all charges against Nicholas Dunn. The decision was attributed to significant evidentiary challenges that had arisen, critically undermining the prosecution's ability to proceed. Among these challenges were the deaths of two essential witnesses since the charges were initially filed. Furthermore, key DNA evidence collected from the scene had been compromised, rendering it inadmissible in court. While the charges were dismissed, prosecutors have indicated that the investigation into the murders of Tiara Turner, Terri Betties, Davon Whitlock, and Sherry Taylor remains open.
