In the late hours of March 2, 2015, the life of 19-year-old Devonzae Dewayne Motley-Jones was tragically cut short on Caroline Avenue in Indianapolis. Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 10:40 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Motley-Jones suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Despite the immediate attention of emergency medical services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of the young man, known to some as 'Babop,' moved swiftly. Within two days, on March 4, 2015, homicide detectives, along with members of the Violent Crimes Unit, apprehended a suspect. Kieah Williams, who was 34 years old at the time, was taken into custody without incident. The arrest brought a sense of relief to a community shaken by the violent loss of a young life.
Following his arrest, Kieah Williams was charged with murder and carrying a handgun without a license in connection with the fatal shooting of Devonzae Motley-Jones. The case then proceeded through the legal system, with the community closely watching for the outcome and hoping for justice for the teenager whose life was ended so abruptly on a late winter night. The community gathered to mourn the loss of Motley-Jones at his funeral service on March 13, 2015, with his burial taking place at New Crown Cemetery.
