In the summer of 2015, the disappearance of two teenage brothers from Gary, Indiana, culminated in a tragic discovery that shook the local community. Arreon Lackey, an 18-year-old male, and his younger brother Antonio, age 16, were reported missing by their mother in early July after they had not been seen since late June. For weeks, law enforcement and family members searched for the pair, but the mystery came to a grim conclusion on July 17, 2015.
Two fishermen walking through a secluded, wooded area in the 7000 block of Grand Boulevard in Hobart, Indiana, stumbled upon the decomposing remains of the siblings. The Lake County Coroner subsequently identified the bodies and determined that both victims had died from single gunshot wounds to the head, ruling the deaths as homicides.
Investigators soon unraveled a convoluted plot involving a group of seven individuals, many of whom were members of the same family. The inquiry revealed that the brothers had been abducted from a hotel in Merrillville, Indiana, on June 26, 2015, following a dispute over a firearm. According to court testimony, a man named David Johnson IV believed Arreon was in possession of a. 38-caliber revolver that he had previously given him and demanded its return. When the weapon was not produced, the situation escalated into a kidnapping. The brothers were forced into vehicles and driven to the remote location in Hobart, where they were marched into the woods and executed.
Police launched a series of raids and arrests, taking seven suspects into custody and charging them with various counts including murder, kidnapping, and murder in the perpetration of kidnapping. The suspects included David Johnson IV, his wife Jeri Woods his father David Johnson III, and his sons David Johnson V and Aarion Greenwood. Other accomplices, Kiontay Cason and Michelle Hughes, were also implicated in the crime. The investigation highlighted a disturbing family dynamic, as evidence showed that Johnson IV had enlisted his own children and wife to carry out the abduction and subsequent killings.
The legal proceedings led to lengthy prison terms for the primary aggressors. Jeri Woods was convicted for her direct role in the murders; testimony established that she and Cason had walked the brothers into the woods where she shot them. She was sentenced to 120 years in prison. David Johnson IV was found guilty of orchestrating the crime and received a sentence of 195 years.
