In the city of Gary, Indiana, on March 5, 2016, the life of 56-year-old Donether Barnes, a Black female, was tragically cut short. Her body was discovered at the rear door of an apartment building in the 2100 block of West Fifth Avenue. Responding to a call for service around 6:10 p.m., police found Ms. Barnes, who was pronounced dead at the scene shortly thereafter.
