On April 29, 2016, the life of 27-year-old Brittany Bailey was tragically cut short in an alley on the west side of Indianapolis. A Black female, Bailey was discovered with at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The devastating event unfolded as a result of a domestic dispute with her husband.
The primary suspect in her death was her 34-year-old husband, Giovanni Bailey.
On the morning of the incident, it is alleged that Giovanni shot Brittany in an alley in the 300 block of North Addison Street before fleeing in a red Dodge Charger. A search for him was launched by police, and his vehicle was located a few blocks from the crime scene.
Later the same day, Giovanni Bailey was found deceased in an alley in the 400 block of North Warman Avenue, having died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The couple reportedly had a history of domestic violence, and law enforcement in Plainfield had been monitoring Brittany's safety prior to her death. Family members of Giovanni expressed their sorrow and described Brittany as a hardworking, God-fearing woman who was dedicated to her home. They also acknowledged instances of abuse against Brittany within the relationship. In the wake of the murder-suicide, authorities urged anyone aware of domestic violence situations to seek help.
