Anthony Owens, a 45-year-old Oakland resident, died on July 17, 2017, due to injuries sustained from an assault the previous day. Kayvaun Rodgers, a 26-year-old man from Oakland, was arrested and charged with Owens' murder. Rodgers had previously been convicted of sex trafficking and was still on probation when the homicide occurred. Investigators connected Rodgers to the incident and charged him accordingly.
