In the fall of 2016, the South Bend, Indiana community was shaken by the tragic death of Amana Denise Scott, a 45-year-old female. Her life was abruptly ended on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, in a devastating act of domestic violence. Scott, a beloved mother of three daughters, was shot and killed by Aaron Wilson, the 36-year-old father of her youngest child. Following the murder of Scott, Wilson then took his own life.
The grim discovery was made by police in a home in the 500 block of South 25th Street. Responding to a call from a concerned friend of Wilson's who had heard a gunshot over the phone, officers entered the residence to find the bodies of Scott and Wilson. Tragically, the couple's 5-year-old daughter was also in the house at the time of the incident and was found by police watching cartoons. The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit investigated the case and officially ruled it a murder-suicide.
Amana Scott was remembered as a kindhearted and active member of her church and community, known for her warm smile and dedication to her family. Having spent most of her life in the South Bend and Mishawaka area, she was a graduate of Langston University and an employee at Liberty Mutual Insurance. The community mourned her loss, with vigils held to honor her memory and raise awareness about domestic violence. The incident left behind her three daughters, who were left in the care of other family members.
