Ammar Shatnawi, a 36-year-old man, was killed in a violent robbery on the night of January 3, 2017, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Working at the Jordan's Fish & Chicken restaurant on the city's east side, Shatnawi and his co-worker, 34-year-old Wesam Sammour, were nearing closing time when two armed individuals stormed the establishment. The suspects, whose images were captured on surveillance footage, were seen leaping over the counter in what police described as a 'takeover-style robbery.'
The discovery of the tragic scene was made by a relative who became concerned after being unable to reach either of the men. Arriving at the restaurant, the relative found both Shatnawi and Sammour shot to death. Investigators believe the primary motive for the attack was robbery. Both Shatnawi and Sammour were originally from Jordan and were described as hardworking individuals trying to make a life in the United States.
In the immediate aftermath of the double homicide, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department released the surveillance video to the public in the hopes of identifying the two suspects. The footage showed two men, one in a red jacket and the other in a dark-colored jacket, both armed with handguns. Despite the circulation of this footage and a reward being offered for information leading to an arrest, the case has remained unsolved.
