On March 28, 2025, a violent disturbance erupted at a residence on the southeast side of Indianapolis, Indiana, claiming the life of James Walter McGuire. The 48-year-old Other Race male was found fatally shot at the scene, the tragic result of what authorities later described as a trivial dispute over a service payment. Another man, David Doty, also sustained critical gunshot wounds during the altercation and was transported to a local hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his
injuries.
The incident reportedly stemmed from a disagreement regarding a $40 lawn care bill. Law enforcement officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the home to investigate the shooting and encountered the suspect, Michael Hendricks, still at the location. During the confrontation, Hendricks reportedly raised his firearm toward the responding officers, prompting one of them to discharge their service weapon. Hendricks was struck by the police gunfire but survived his injuries.
Following his recovery, Hendricks was arrested and charged in connection with the double homicide. The legal proceedings moved swiftly, and by August 2025, the case reached its conclusion. Hendricks pleaded guilty to two counts of murder for the deaths of McGuire and Doty. A judge sentenced him to 90 years in prison, bringing a final legal resolution to the deadly argument that had escalated so rapidly months prior.
