On a Wednesday evening, the quiet town of Salem, Indiana, became the scene of a grim discovery that shattered the peace of the community. Two young men from Louisville, Kentucky, were found lying on the side of the road, both suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. One of these men was 18-year-old Marty Jay Patterson III. A passerby spotted the bodies and immediately alerted the authorities, who arrived to find a scene of brutal violence.
Patterson was riddled with so many bullet wounds
that they covered his body. He was rushed to Saint Vincent Salem Hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead. Alongside him was a 19-year-old companion who was also critically injured and was flown to University Hospital for emergency treatment. Authorities stated that their detectives were with the surviving victim to ensure his safety.
