In the autumn of 2021, a day of foraging in the woods of Southern Indiana turned fatal for Michael Walker, a 55-year-old White/Caucasian male from Austin. On the afternoon of Friday, October 29, 2021, Walker was in a wooded area behind a home on Peacock Hollow Road, east of Salem, with two other men and two dogs. The group was hunting for ginseng, a valuable root sought for its use in herbal supplements.
