In the late spring of 2017, the life of 28-year-old DeAngelo Spencer was tragically cut short in Gary, Indiana. On the morning of May 23rd, police responded to a call of a person shot in the 2400 block of Pierce Street. Inside a home, they discovered Spencer, a Black male, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel were unable to save him, and the Lake County Coroner's Office pronounced him dead at the scene at 9:30 a.m.
The authorities swiftly ruled his death a homicide, launching an investigation into the fatal shooting. The case was taken on by the Lake County/Metro Homicide Unit, which began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to Spencer's untimely demise.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement had not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the case. The investigation was described as active and ongoing, with authorities appealing to the public for any information that could lead to a breakthrough. DeAngelo Spencer, who was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and later moved to Gary, was remembered by his family as a father of five who had worked at various fast-food establishments. His loved ones were left to mourn their loss as the quest for justice in his case began.
