In Elkhart, Indiana, a 56-year-old man named Quinncy M. Jackson was found deceased behind a residence on 5th Street on the afternoon of Saturday, June 3, 2017. His discovery marked the second homicide in the city in as many weeks. An autopsy later confirmed that the male victim had died from multiple gunshot wounds. Neighbors had reportedly noticed an unusual odor for a couple of days prior to the discovery but had not initially suspected the grim cause.
The investigation into Jackson's
death quickly progressed, leading authorities to a suspect. Within weeks, Car'nell Trass, an 18-year-old from Mishawaka, was apprehended in Kokomo. According to court documents and his own confession, Trass had been with Jackson, smoking synthetic marijuana when an argument erupted between them. The dispute escalated, tragically culminating in Trass shooting and killing Jackson. Evidence found at the scene included three. 80 caliber casings, a live round, a crack pipe, and a five-dollar bill near Jackson's body.
Following his arrest, Car'nell Trass faced legal proceedings for the murder of Quinncy Jackson. In a plea agreement, Trass pleaded guilty to the crime. In August 2018, he was sentenced to 45 years in prison for his role in Jackson's death. His sentence was credited with 428 days for time already served and good behavior.
