In a tragic turn of events on March 5, 2018, 40-year-old Amanda Jean Kerns, a White female from Terre Haute, Indiana, was fatally shot in her home. The incident, which also left a man named Ronald Lawrence critically injured, unfolded in the 2100 block of Putnam Street and stemmed from a domestic dispute. Kerns, a mother and grandmother, was remembered by her loved ones as a loving individual.
The primary suspect in the shooting was identified as 36-year-old Michael R. Reynolds.
Authorities believe a recent breakup between Kerns and Reynolds may have precipitated the violent encounter. Following the shooting, Reynolds fled to another residence, initiating a tense standoff with police that would last for nearly 20 hours.
In a bizarre twist during the protracted standoff, Reynolds managed to elude the police perimeter and was seen shopping at a local Walmart, a development that left law enforcement puzzled.
