Javon Tyrell Burnett Sr., a 26-year-old male, was killed on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. His body was discovered between two buildings at The Summit at Ridgewood Apartments around 10 a.m. that morning. An investigation revealed that Burnett had been shot 13 times, with the shooter firing at least 20 rounds.
The ensuing police investigation led to the arrest of Tyrion McNair, who was 25 years old at the time.
Prosecutors presented evidence and eyewitness accounts that placed McNair at the scene of the crime. After a trial that concluded in January 2019, a jury deliberated for four and a half hours before finding McNair guilty of the murder of Javon Burnett.
Another individual, 21-year-old Joshua Smiley, was also implicated in the case. Smiley pleaded guilty to a charge of assisting a criminal for his role in the events surrounding Burnett's death. He was subsequently sentenced to three years in prison for his involvement.
