On the evening of April 19, 2018, violence erupted in the 1200 block of Manhattan Avenue near West Washington Street and Lynhurst Drive in Indianapolis, Indiana. Police officers were dispatched to the scene just before 10 p.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, first responders discovered a chaotic scene where three individuals had sustained gunshot wounds. Among the victims was Kylie Nicole Price, a 24-year-old female who had been critically injured during the incident.
Emergency medical personnel transported the victims to local hospitals for urgent care, but despite medical intervention, Price succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The two other victims, both men, survived the shooting.
Detectives from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation to identify the perpetrators responsible for the deadly triple shooting. The inquiry revealed that the violence was not a random act, and investigators soon zeroed in on suspects believed to be involved in the attack. The investigation uncovered that the shooting was connected to a robbery, leading authorities to pursue charges against multiple individuals.
The legal pursuit of justice resulted in the arrest and subsequent trial of two men. Fransuah Mathews was identified as an accomplice in the crime. Following his trial, he was convicted for his role in the violence and received a significant prison term, being sentenced to 95 years of incarceration. The courts determined that his participation in the events that led to Price's death warranted a near-century-long sentence, reflecting the severity of the outcome.
A second suspect, Anthony Smith, also faced the justice system for his involvement. In December, a jury found him guilty on multiple serious charges, including murder, felony murder, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated battery, and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. In January 2020, Smith appeared in court for his sentencing hearing. A judge handed down a 90-year prison sentence, ensuring that both men responsible for the loss of Kylie Price and the injuries to the other survivors would remain behind bars for decades.
