On a cold December evening in Indianapolis, what began as a simple errand after a date night turned into a lasting tragedy for one family. Curtis Lee Wooden, a 55-year-old man, had just returned home with his wife, Latricia Magee-Wooden, on December 29, 2016. He decided to go back out to buy lottery tickets. Shortly after he left, he was found shot inside his car on Little John Drive.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department investigated the shooting, which they described as a
random act of violence. Detectives believed that Wooden was simply in the 'wrong place at the wrong time' and that there was no connection between him and his killer. This randomness left both law enforcement and Wooden's loved ones struggling for answers. In the years following his death, his case remained unsolved, with no suspects identified and no arrests made.
The lack of resolution has been a heavy burden for his wife, who has spoken publicly about the enduring pain and difficulty of moving forward without knowing who is responsible for her husband's death. She described him as the love of her life and has expressed her hope that one day she will be able to breathe again, knowing that justice has been served and he can finally rest in peace. The family has held memorials at the spot where he was killed, praying that someone with information will come forward. As of late 2019, the search for Curtis Wooden's killer was still ongoing, with police appealing to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest.
